Luitpold served as the de facto ruler of Bavaria on account of the incapacity of his nephews, first Ludwig II and then Otto, acting as regent in their place. In 1893, building developments in Munich caused changes, with the shooting range's old site being sold and allowing for the creation of a new range in Mittersendling, south of town.
